With a great combination of melodic guitar, electro beats and ambient glitches Nedry create a unique and arresting sound of their own. After an exciting beginning to the year including high profile radio plays we caught up with them to ask about the past few months and what’s in store for the future.
You’ve recently been featured on Huw Stephens ‘Radio 1 Introducing’ programme on and were on the playlist of Tom Robinson’s BBC Radio 6 Music. How did this come about?
Chris: A good friend of ours called Corin contacted Huw's show and sent a very complimentary email about us. What's been great about this is that we actually had almost the entire 6 minute track played, which is probably quite unusual for an instrumental track like 'Apples and Pears', so yeah, good stuff!
Matt: funny thing I thought was that we only found out because someone added us on myspace saying they enjoyed the song on the radio!
What’s the response been like so far?
Chris - We've had some really positive feedback from the producers of Huw's show, we're working hard to capitalise on it, but we're basically at the very beginning of this so we need more material to back it up. There have been some nice comments from listeners too; it's an exciting thing for us as every artist dreams of having their music going out to thousands of listeners.
You were both pretty successful as solo artists playing at Glastonbury among other festivals. What brought you together to form Nedry?
Matt: I was invited to play a show at Truck Festival and I had just relocated at the time. I didn’t know what to do as I had lost my usual music links and just quit my old band. Chris had come out a few times to say hi since I had relocated as he was in the area and I thought the guy seemed pretty switched on and dedicated... thankfully I wasn’t wrong and he’s still pushing me hard now!
Chris - I was collaborating with quite a few artists from the US, which was fun, but basically difficult to take beyond the home studio. I was always on the look-out for someone who was taking it seriously enough to do something regularly. I saw Matt play in Unspeakable Easels and thought we could do something interesting together. It soon became evident when we started writing and rehearsing that we share a hard work ethic and passion for this music and when there's someone else on your wavelength you both make things happen a lot faster.
You’ve recently been working with Ayu. What has she brought to the Nedry sound?
Chris: Ayu was involved right from the formation of Nedry and was around during the early writing sessions, but unfortunately had other commitments and has only recently come back to us. We've always had it in our minds that her vocals would work well with our music...
